Until very recently I had the idea that my future career would be one job I went to 5 days a week. It sounded simple, straightforward and uncomplicated; all qualities I strive for in my everyday life. The problem with this single focused, one stop job I’d imagined is it was putting a massive limit on my potential for growth and happiness in the work I hoped to achieve. There are many things I love that I can see myself pursuing; writing, photography, arts management. I’m trying to let go of that deep, internal need for order and singularity in this area of my life and learn to embrace my varied interests, to explore all my options and look for ways to incorporate many of my passions into my future work.
Now, one area I do try and keep as minimal as possible is my skincare routine. I have sensitive, dry skin that is prone to eczema in the winter and the odd hormonal breakout on my chin. These 5 products are the best for a gentle cleanse and ultimate hydration.
Herbivore Botanicals Pink Clay Cleansing Bar Soap – As I mentioned in my Recent Favourites post, I’ve been using this as my sole cleaner (besides oil for removing eye makeup) for over 6 months. I massage it into damp skin and it lathers up like a foam cleanser but without any drying or tightening effect. Instead, it leaves my skin soft, calm and clean. I attribute the fact that I haven’t had a real pimple in many months to this bar of soap. Before I began using it, I had tried cream cleansers and oils but nothing seemed to soothe my sensitive skin fully. The short and pure ingredients list of the Pink Clay Bar hits my perfect balance of effective and gentle.
Heritage Store Rosewater – This refreshing toner provides a light mist of moisture to my face, the perfect prep for the oils and moisturizers to come. My only gripe with this product is its packaging; It’s not the most attractive design and it’s plastic, which is bad for me and the environment. I just purchased a new toner from a local Toronto brand that I’m excited to start testing.
MV Organic Skincare Rose Plus Booster – This is definitely the most luxurious beauty product I own. I hummed and hawed over it for about a year and after about a billion rave review from bloggers, I bought it and man, am I glad I did. The most immediate change I noticed was a reduction in the redness on my cheeks and around my nose. It quickly calmed any irritated areas and left my skin glowing. I developed a small spot of eczema on my face in September and after only a few applications of this, it was beginning to heal. If you’ve been searching for the perfect face oil to soothe and hydrate, this could be it! I also just finished a sample of the Rose Soothing Protective Moisturizer and when I’m out of my current one, it’s next up.
CAMP Skincare Matcha Latte Eye Cream – With ingredients like cucumber seed oil, mango seed butter, green coffee bean oil and of course, matcha, this eye cream both nourishes and brightens. It is very light in texture and you only need a tiny amount. It does take a bit of time to sink in, making it perfect for applying before bed. This is the newest addition to my skincare line up but I am very happy with it so far and will share any updates!
CV Skinlabs Restorative Skin Balm – My beloved skin balm. I talk about this too much, so check out this post and this post for my rave reviews. Currently I’m using it as a spot treatment for extra dry patches and it’s working wonderfully.
Till next week,
